- # ST HARDWARE December 1989 Issue (Vol. 4, No. 5)
- # COMING NEXT ISSUE
- # GIVE START FOR CHRISTMAS
- # PREPARE START PROGRAM DISK
- #***********************************************************
- # ATTENTION START READERS
- #***********************************************************
- # Due to a bug in our formatting routines, the menu
- #program is unable to Prepare a disk directly from files on
- #the back side of your START disk. In order to access these
- #files, you must follow these special instructions:
- # 1) Format a single-sided disk for backup.
- # 2) Click on the "Backup START Disk" button.
- # 3) Select the option to back up Side 2 of your START disk.
- # 4) Click on Backup.
- # This will put the contents of Side 2 of your START
- #disk onto one single-sided disk. Next, use the "Prepare
- #Disk" button and select the file you wish to use, for
- #example, B/STAT. The program will prompt you to insert
- #your Side 2 disk into Drive A.
- # Because of these special instructions the option to
- #back up both sides of your disk onto one double-sided disk
- #is not available this issue.
- #
- # Features on Side 1 of your START disk this month:
- #
- # GFA COMPANION by John Holder
- # Give your programs that professional flair by creating
- # dialog boxes and menus for GFA BASIC. The files OVL010,
- # OVL020 and OVL030 must be in the same directory as GFA
- # Companion. GENCOLOR.RSC is required to run the program
- # in medium resolution; to run Companion in high resolution
- # GENMONO.RSC must be in the same directory as COMPAN2.PRG.
- #
- # WORD PUZZLE DESIGNER by Earl Toman
- # Create personalized word search puzzles. Sample patterns
- # have the extender .PAT; sample word lists have the
- # extender .WDS. The GFA BASIC 2.0 source code in ASCII
- # format is in the file WORDPUZL.LST. Runs in medium or
- # high resolution.
- #
- # ATTACK! by Ron Schaefer
- # Fly your Attack Fighter through the desolate scenery of an
- # alien landscape and destroy enemy fighters The GFA BASIC
- # 3.0 run-only program will automatically un-ARC onto the
- # destination directory you specify when you select ATTACK!
- # from the Prepare menu. Runs in low resolution.
- #
- # DAH-DITTER CODE LESSONS by John Allen
- # Learn Morse code faster using this set of 14 Dah-Ditter
- # code lessons. Requires Dah-Ditter from the February
- # 1989 issue of START; note that lessons 1 and 2 are
- # combined into one file (LS1_2.DIS).
- #
- # Features on Side 2 of your START disk this month:
- #
- # B/STAT by Bob Wilson
- # This graphing and statistical analysis package is
- # compatible with Lotus, Multiplan and .DIF spreadsheet
- # formats, so you can analyze data created with other
- # programs. If you like this shareware program the author
- # requests a contribution of $30.00; B/STAT may be freely
- # distributed.
- #
- # Note: B/STAT was written in GFA BASIC 3.0 and requires the
- # GFA BASIC run-only program, which must be un-ARC'd
- # separately from the front side of the disk. You must
- # Prepare this file onto a double- sided disk or hard disk,
- # since BSTAT.GFA is over 400K in length.
- #
- # AVECTA I: EBORA SOURCE CODE by Mark Swanson
- # The complete Alcyon C source code to Avecta I: Ebora, the
- # graphic adventure game featured in the September 1989
- # issue of START. See the README.DOC file in the Avecta
- # Source archive file for compile instructions. The
- # executable code for Avecta and necessary data files are
- # only available on the September 1989 START disk.
- #
- #Note: All programs on your START disk are copyrighted
- #and are for your own personal use. You may not freely
- #distribute programs or files on your START disk unless
- #specifically indicated.

- #Atari ST, Mega and TT computers.
- #
- #In the January issue we'll take an in-depth look at
- #Atari's CD-ROM (yes, it does exist). We'll find out what
- #it is, how it works and why it, and machines like it, has
- #the potential to change the way we presently think of
- #computer software.
- #
- #Also in the January issue we're pleased to present you
- #with our big Holiday Gift Guide. This special section
- #will be devoted entirely to helping you find the perfect
- #gift for your favorite ST or Mega user. Products will be
- #categorized by price, so you'll be able to pick the gift
- #that best fits your budget.
- #
- #And as if that isn't enough, we'll take a look at a
- #fabulous new World War II flight simulator from Lucasfilm.
- #It's called Battle of Britain and it's sure to go over big
- #with all you aviation buffs.
- #
- #ON DISK: If you ever played Dragon's Lair or Space Ace in
- #the arcades, then you've experienced a LaserDisc game.
- #Now you can learn how to control a LaserDisc from your ST
- #with Michael Riley's LaserDisc Remote Control Program.
- #It's only available on the January START disk.
- #
- #AND THAT'S NOT ALL
- #
- #Where START magazine's concerned, is it ever? Besides the
- #usual collection of informational reviews and useful
- #programs, watch future issues for special bonuses.

- #December 1st.
